Christina Merrida enters her first year as the assistant softball coach at Trinity Valley Community College, after accepting the position on July 26, 2013.
Merrida, who will work with outfielders and slapping, was a four-year letter winner at East Carolina University and helped the Pirates win the Conference USA championship in 2010.
While at ECU, the former center fielder earned preseason all- conference and honor roll accolades. She started 54 of the team's 55 games, all in center field. She finished fourth on the squad with a .281 batting average, including a .349 average in Conference USA games. Merrida scored 26 runs, the fourth-most on the team and had 16 stolen She posted a .414 on-base percentage in C-USA action and she collected a team-best 12 two-hit games, leading to the second-most multiple-hit games on the squad . During her senior season at ECU she was one of five Pirates to finish the season with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Prior to joining TVCC, Merrida was the volunteer assistant coach at Chowan University, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. There too, Merrida also assisted the Hawks in outfield play and worked with slappers.
Merrida earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication from East Carolina University in May 2011.
