Learning Academy
Director: Floyd Brigdon
Assistant Director: Kippi Harraid

The Learning Academy was conceived as a program to engage faculty with the 2007 Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and to broaden their familiarity with learning centered instructional techniques and the concepts of classroom assessment. The program has been very successful and has become an important part of our faculty and staff professionalization efforts. It now supports a Scholars Learning Academy that meets monthly throughout the fall and spring semesters, accepting both faculty and staff. The academy also sponsors two learning day workshops per year for all faculty and staff. The following publications are currently in use or have been used in previous Learning Academy semester sessions:

Classroom Assessment Techniques A Handbook for College Teachers by Thomas A. Angelo and K. Patricia Cross
Creating Significant Learning Experiences by L. Dee Fink
Flow The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Learner-Centered Teaching by Maryellen Weimer
Six Weeks to a Brain-Compatible Classroom by Janet N. Zadina
The Learning Paradigm College by John Tagg
What the Best College Teachers Do by Ken Bain
