Five students and 2 advisors from Trinity Valley Community College’s Iota Alpha chapter of Phi Theta Kappa attended the Texas Regional Honors Institute at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, earning certificates as Texas Scholars for attendance. The event, held July 29 – 31, featured Advisors Nancy Long and Dr. Michael Felty as seminar leaders and Iota Alpha officers presenting two workshops at the Institute. As District 3 Coordinator for Texas Phi Theta Kappa, Nancy Long was part of the leadership team that planned the event.
IO chapter member Stephanie (Phuong) Do of Palestine won the $750 Nancy Long Texas STAR Scholarship to attend TVCC in Fall 2016. The competitive Texas STAR Scholarships are awarded at the end of the institute to students who exhibit service, community involvement, high goals, scholarly achievement and essays and present letters of recommendation.
