Trinity Valley Community College Student Government Association (SGA) Advisor Cortney Curran received the prestigious Texas Legend Award from the Texas Junior College Student Government Association at their 2017 state convention held March 30-April 2 in Houston.
The Texas Legend Award is only presented when TJCSGA feels there is a deserving individual, based on longevity and commitment to the organization. “I have worked with Cortney for many years through TJCSGA. This year I was fortunate to serve as the State Advisor-Elect, and proposed her selection as a Texas Legend recipient,” said O.L. Kelly of Navarro College. “Over the years I've recognized her dedication and success with the SGA of TVCC, commitment to the Region III delegation, and at the state level. She's continuously sought out as a statesman within the organization. It was her commitment and longevity of service as an educator that led me to nominate her, and for the executive board to unanimously approve her selection.”
“I was utterly gobsmacked,” Curran posted.
“Cortney is very deserving of this very prestigious award,” said TVCC Vice President of Student Services Dr. Jay Kinzer. “I couldn’t be happier for her. She represents TVCC very well and has had a tremendous impact on the lives of so many of our SGA students.”
TVCC SGA students brought home awards from the convention including 1st place in the Poetry competition, 2nd place in Event of the Year, 3rd place in Song of the Year and Honorable Mention in Chapter of the Year and Community Service.
