J Pond just finished his fifth season with the Cardinals, joining the program in 2009 as offensive line coach, and taking over the reigns of the teams strength and conditioning program in 2010. Coach Pond was a valuable member of the 2013 SWJCFC Conference Champions, 2013 SWJCFC Regional Champions and the 2013 Heart of Texas Bowl Champions. Under his tutelage, the Cardinal offensive lines have helped pave the way for one of the most explosive offenses in the nation, finishing routinely top 15 in the NJCAA in total yards, total offense, rushing offense as well as passing offense. Including the 2013 offense that lead the SWJCFC in almost every offensive category possible. In his 5 seasons, J has coached 7 All-SWJCFC selections, 3 All-Region selections and 2 NJCAA All-Americans. His men up front have helped pave the way for 2 (2010 & 2013) SWJCFC MVP's and 2 (2009 & 2011) SWJCFC Offensive MVP's. Coach Pond has also sent 12 of his offensive linemen to Division 1 FBS and FCS programs in the past 4 seasons.
Pond came to Athens after spending the 2007 and 2008 seasons at Sul Ross State University. While with the Lobos, he coached the offensive line and held the titles of recruiting coordinator and director of strength and conditioning. In his two seasons in Alpine, TX, the Lobos offensive line led the way for one of the American Southwest Conference's most potent rushing attacks.
An alumnus of The Fighting Texas A&M Aggies and 2-time football letterman, J earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management in 2005. J also holds a Masters of Physical Education (2007). While in College Station, Pond helped the Aggies reach the 2004 SBC Cotton Bowl and the 2006 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl. He still holds a number of lifting titles at A&M and was selected to participate in the Night of Champions where he broke the school record in the power clean with a weight of 470 lbs.
